Therapy for Individuals
NYC & VirtualYou're not burnt out. You're stuck in a loop.There's a difference.
There's a specific kind of exhaustion that isn't exactly measurable. You may be performing well by every external measure: career, income, output, the whole thing. And underneath it, something isn't adding up.
Who comes to see me
High performers
Who have hit their targets and are quietly wondering why it doesn't feel like enough.
Founders
Navigating the weight of building something while trying to remain a person.
People at a crossroads
A career, identity, or relationship in flux. Used to solving problems, and finding this one doesn't respond to the usual tools.
Therapy skeptics
Who've tried it before and felt like they spent most of it explaining what they do for a living.
You don't need to be in crisis to be here. You just need to be honest that something isn't working, and curious enough to find out what that something is.
You haven't worked hard enough.
You need a vacation. Or more discipline. Or more gratitude.
The goalpost keeps moving, and you're the one moving it: automatically, before you've even registered the last win.
That's a pattern, and patterns have mechanisms. The mechanism is what we work on.
How I work
No one person who sits across from me is the same, and neither is the therapy itself. I don't use only one modality, or style, of therapy. What I reach for depends on what the session needs.
Some weeks, we may do some structured cognitive work or focus on coping skills. Other times, staying with what's actually present is what's important rather than rushing toward a specific technique.
I'm going to say the thing I notice. Warmly, and directly.
If you're looking for someone who will let you run the session indefinitely without ever pushing back, I'm probably not your person. If you want someone who will stay with you through the hard parts and tell you the truth about what they see, we'll get along fine.
As an LMSW in NY State (License #131750), I am authorized to provide clinical psychotherapy services, assessments, and diagnosis under the supervision of an LCSW. All clinical services are provided under the supervision of Jacob Mergendoller, LCSW (License #098970) at Lightline Therapy.
Outside of New York? Therapy licensure stops at the state line, but the work doesn't have to. Let's talk about coaching.
